Yesterday I wrote the first installment of How to make more money.  We covered three ways to increase your income.  One was only a short term strategy while the other two were focused on the long term.  Today I’m going to talk a little more about item 2 and how you can make more than 20, 30 and even 40,000 a year.

Starting a business seems a bit overwhelming and frightening to most people (including me at times).  One of the difficulties is that when we think about starting a business, the thought is that we have to create the next Walmart or the next Home Depot.  However, that idea is completely bogus.  You can open a business tomorrow that can easily bump your income over 20k, and with a little work over 40k.

Do you know how to paint a room?  When we first moved into our home we hired a painter to paint 3 rooms.  We paid for the paint and when he left, our wallet was about $545 lighter.  He had one assistant and they worked somewhere around 8-10 hours.  Let’s break down the math on this.

A quick bit of math shows that at 9 hours they pulled in about $60 per hour.  I suspect his assistant probably made less, so for purposes of the illustration let’s say that the assistant earned $10 per hour.  That would leave the main painter with $50 per hour.  So, he probably pulled in about $450 for one day’s worth of work.  If you subtract $25 for miscellaneous supplies he still made about 425.  Take out taxes and you’re probably left with about 300 dollars to put back into the business or the bank.  Even after all of that he still cleared about 33 dollars per hour.  You heard me!  That’s amazing.

If you only work 30 hours a week for 50 weeks a year you will take home about $49,500 dollars.  Are you convinced yet?  You can make more than $20,000 per year!  It will take work, but you CAN do it!  Tomorrow I will write more about starting your own business so that YOU can change your future.
