I never realized just how time consuming, tedious and frustrating searching for another car can be. Amazing. I’ve spent numerous hours across the course of the past week. Tonight we were going to check out three and due to rain and traffic didn’t. I did locate a small local used car dealer that seems to be a cut above the rest, so I’ll let you know how it turns out.
The search has been frustrating for several reasons. One, my price point appears to be just under the point that the types of cars I am looking at fall into. Two, many of the types of vehicles I’m looking for aren’t in my area. Three, those that are in my area are sold by dealers. I don’t have anything against dealers except the premium that is charged over a private party sale. I’m not mad at them… just trying to save money.
Anyway, I’m looking for the following vehicles. If you know anyone that has one for sale and it meets my criteria… please let me know chris at chrishotz.org.
- Want to spend: no more than 6k.
- Prefer car has under 100k miles, but up to 150,000 is probably okay assuming my mechanic’s inspection comes back with good marks. I have to think twice anything over that. I’m looking at one car now that has 175,000 miles. The particular make and model are known for reliability but… not sure if I can persuade myself to go after it.
- Want one of the following:
- Toyota Rav4
- Honda CR-V
- Lexus ES 300
- Acura TL (some years of this car had transmission issues, want to avoid those)
- Toyota Avalon or Camry
- Honda Accord
- Mazda 626 or Millenia
- Nothing older than 1997. A newer car which matches my criteria is even better.
That’s it. I hope to wrap this up during the next week or so. I’ve found that I need to be more creative in my searching in order to get closer to what I want. I’ll let you know how it goes! I now better understand why most people just grit their teeth and willingly take a car loan. I refuse to get a loan but it’s definitely going to take more work!
