The last two weeks have been crazy. We put over 36 hours and 3100 miles behind the wheel of our Xterra. We’ve been through Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee. We spent a week in Minnesota with family and a week in South Dakota with family.
We were privilege to ride a jet ski on the Missippi River and celebrated our ten year anniversary on an Island Girl cruise. We had a blast. I ran a 5k in South Dakota and that afternoon drove the 18 hours back to Georgia. It was good to see family, and good to be home in our own beds… So what thoughts are on my mind?
- Energy drinks don’t appear to be able to keep one up all night. On the way out I tried Redline, on the way back I tried 5 Hour Energy. I drank them at 11pm and Redline died about 12:30 or 1 am and 5 Hour Energy ran out around 1-1:30 am… Guess I’ll just try plain old coffee next time.
- 18 hours is a freaking long time to drive. I’ll probably do it again in the future but seriously… I need to find an alternative!
- My dad’s retired. His income was just cut in half. Frankly, I don’t believe they have enough saved for retirement. Budgeting will be more important now than ever. Living frugally enough to survive in retirement may be a challenge.
- Many of my relatives on both sides are just getting by. Limited to no control over their finances. In debt, or quickly accumulating it, and little to no thought for the future and their retirement. I don’t know how to get through to them without starting WWIII…
- Why do so many of us just settle. I frequently find myself doing this. Just settling for where I’m at. Not taking the risks. Not taking the chances. It’s easier to maintain the status quo. And yet, I personally, am feeling a need to push for more. To take the risk, to take a chance.
- Tired. Still re-cuperating from the trip.
- I loved my first time out on a jet ski. Freaking awesome!
That’s it. I’m worn out. I’m feel that it’s closing in on the time to move on in my career. To take the next step. I have several ideas about what that could look like but am still thinking about which direction to pursue. Business owner? Technology management? Sales engineer? All of the above?
How about you? What are you pursuing? Are you contemplating making a change? If so, make sure you have a solid plan in place…. and then go for it!
Over and out…
