Churches, closing down, reducing staff, cutting back on out reach programs during a time when there are those who need it most… struggling financially… what happened? What went wrong? My guess is that many of the churches in difficulty borrowed money. Why do I say that? Because if you don’t have payments to make then it shouldn’t be too difficult to stay afloat when the economy cuts into the church income.
How did churches in America get into such a mess? I have some guesses and I’ll cover those in an upcoming post. Here are the other topic areas I will be covering in the upcoming posts:
- How we got here: the leadership, inconsistent teaching in practice
- The Bible speaks: What does it have to say about debt? Being a slave to something? How does God provide for his projects?
- Vision: Whose vision is it anyway? Does God provide for His vision?
- Wrapping it up
These are the primary topics areas and I’ll cover anything else that needs to be covered as it arises.
What could your church do if it didn’t have to make debt payments? How many more people could be reached if it wasn’t in bondage to debt? How many lives could be changed for the better… If it wasn’t sending God’s money to the money changers.
